Project Duration

Jul 2018 - Jun 2020

Project Description

To provide a systematic and quantitative student assessment, an automated platform will be developed to provide course learning outcome and measurement design for teachers to evaluate what students learn and to generate a detailed assessment report about students’ achievement/strength/weakness, instead of a letter grade.

Through the support of this TD project, an automated platform will be developed with three areas:

  1. Outcome/measurement design
To improve the design of learning outcomes, a proper method will be investigated to write course learning outcomes for courses of different natures so that more constructive assessment can be provided to students

  2. From outcomes/measurements to course design
After determining the learning outcomes, appropriate measurements (e.g. quizzes, labs, exams) for evaluating students’ achievements are required. A systematic method will be developed to identify students’ weakness and provide suggestions to improve associated learning activities.

  3. Student assessment
A more detailed evaluation regarding students’ strength/weakness in different fields should be provided to assist students’ learning. Instead of their performance in one subject, the automated assessment of students’ overall learning (cognitive processes) will be focused.

Project Outcome

The project is still ongoing. Project outcomes will be updated upon project completion.
