Flipped Classroom

The University of Queensland has a comprehensive website to talk about what a “flipped classroom” is, why flip and how you get started.

About the flipped classroom, by The University of Queensland

The National Center for Academic Transformation (NCAT) recommends the Replacement Model as one of their 6 models for course redesign. The Replacement Model is similar to “Flipped”. It reduces the number of in-class meetings and a) replaces some in-class time with out-of-class, online, interactive learning activities, or b) also makes significant changes in the remaining in-class meetings.

Coursera, one of the key MOOC providers, has collected best-practices and community resources centered around the flipped classroom and blended learning initiatives of the Coursera-partner community and turned it into a field guide for public access.

Dr. Dough Holton, an Associate Director of Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, is constructing a Google Site with information around digital learning resources and teaching tips. One of the sections covers the flipped classroom approach, including technological and pedagogical tips to support the approach.

The Emporium Model


 

The emporium model replaces lectures with a learning resource center model featuring interactive computer software and on-demand personalized assistance. NTAC recommends this as one of their 6 models for course redesign.
