"Enlivening students' mood and adjusting the extent of difficulty of teaching materials"
With respect to teaching, I think it is important to pay attention on two aspects:
- The mood of the students and
- The extent of difficulty for students to comprehend the teaching materials.
Point (1) - I mean it is important to set up a friendly and cheerful atmosphere in the class so that students enjoy coming into the classroom. If we can prepare a few jokes related to the teaching materials well in advance. These jokes very often can arouse the sleepy heads and make the alert group think that it is worth coming.
Point (2)- If the teaching materials are too difficult for students to comprehend, most of them will lose interest easily; on the other hand, if the materials are very easy, the students will not take them seriously and tend to be distracted or day-dreaming readily. I believe that it is good to tailor the teaching materials to a level that is slightly stressful to the students to follow. This can make students focus better in the class and willing to discuss with fellow classmates or the instructor after class.
The above two tips sound easy, but I have to admit that I myself sometimes have problems to follow.
