"What student gets from the class count most!"
What is most important to the students (as well as to the faculty) is what the students get from the class. This includes the amount of knowledge that they get, the kind of habits they learn, the amount of preparation that this course gives for their future studies, the extent to which this course teaches them "how to think", etc. etc. I do not think that we should tell jokes in the class, make the students "feel good", or do any such things in the class. We should teach them well, but we should not be too concerned about course evaluations or awards. If we do our job well, it is reasonable to expect that our efforts would be recognized sooner or later. However, there is no guarantee. In order to do a good job of teaching, it is also important that we get the chance to teach "good students". I was fortunate to get the chance to teach "accounting majors" during this semester who were very keen on learning, and it helped me a lot. I, normally, set high standards and help the students to achieve them. Good students like it but many students may not like it.
