Self- and Peer- Assessment

What is Self and Peer Assessment?

Self- assessment is the involvement of students in identifying and applying the criteria to their work, and making judgments about the extent to which they have met these criteria and standards. In other words, self-assessment is a student-involved process in which students identify and apply the assessment rubric to reflect and evaluate the quality of their work, judge the degree to which they reflect explicitly stated goals or criteria, identify strengths and weakness in their work, and revise accordingly.

By extension, peer- assessment is the same, except this time students are involved in helping each other to identify and apply criteria, and making judgments about each other’s’ work in relation to those criteria.
