The workshop emphasized the instructor’s role in designing and implementing courses based on an integrated content, assessment and pedagogy approach. The integrated design approaches of Pellegrino (Rethinking and Redesigning Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction), Wiggins & McTighe (Backward Design), and Fink (Creating Significant Learning Experiences) were emphasized. The pedagogies involved individual and group strategies in connection with active and cooperative learning. Key elements of cooperative learning that are research-based were featured. These included positive interdependence, individual and group accountability, face-to-face interaction, teamwork skills, and group processing.
