Enhancing your Teaching with eTools

In Fall 2011, CELT will offer the following workshops to introduce you to a range of institutional eTools that support your teaching at HKUST. These include the Learning Management System (LMES), Turnitin (a plagiarism prevention tool) and HKUST Survey Tool.

Target audience:  For faculty and teaching staff who have limited or no experience with the eTools and are interested in exploring how the eTools can enhance their teaching. Only a very basic level of web-skills is needed.

* Faculty and teaching staff who would like to attend the LMES II workshop should have basic understanding about the system or have attended the LMES I workshop.

** Attending the Turnitin workshop is a prerequisite for faculty and teaching staff who plan to use Turnitin.

About the eTools

LMES is a comprehensive Learning Management System with functionalities similar to Moodle and BlackBoard. It is based on the academic open-source system Sakai and specially customized for HKUST's own needs. It has been piloted since 2005, currently there are over 300 courses using LMES in an academic year. Turnitin is an originality checking and anti-plagiarism software that is globally used by millions of students and faculty. Beyond checking the originality of students' work, Turnitin is promoting a writing cycle that makes anti-plagiarism more meaningful to students' learning. The cycle includes originality checking, online grading and providing feedback and peer review. HKUST has subscribed to its service so as to prevent/minimize plagiarism issue within HKUST. HKUST Survey Tool is a user-friendly online survey system made available to all faulty and teaching staff at HKUST. With the tool, you can collect survey data from your target groups at your finger tips. Reports can also be generated easily.
