As an international university, our students came from all around the globe, speaking different languages, and having diverse cultural backgrounds.  In 2017, the Center for Education Innovation conducted a study on ‘Undergraduate Intercultural Needs and Challenges at HKUST’ with the purposes to (1) understand students’ expectation and intercultural experience; (2) identify any intercultural needs and challenges in their classroom study; and, (3) derive suitable ways to address the identified issues. The study began with five student focus group interviews conducted in May 2017 with a total of 31 student participants, and based on the results, a general survey was designed and distributed among the undergraduates body in December 2017, with a total number of 523 student respondents.  The study revealed a number of issues which this forum aims to present followed by discussions and recommendations to address the identified issues.

In the session, CEI has presented a summary of the key findings and Prof. Roger Cheng, Associate Provost (Teaching and Learning), Prof. May-Yi Shaw, and Prof. Eva Chen facilitated the discussion. Faculty and teaching staff were encouraged to attend.
