In the first seminar, the speaker discussed student motivation, sustained engagement and the movement from memorization to critical thinking are key factors in any large class, and perhaps even more so in freshman science courses. The presenter also highlighted and discussed a number of ways of addressing these factors in both the design and the delivery of the "Physics in Movie" course, an award winning, large enrollment course in the common core.
