Non-Faculty Teaching Staff Orientation Fall 2012

We would like to invite new non-faculty teaching staff (Instructors, Lecturers, Teaching Associates, Instructional Assistants etc.) to attend a one-day Orientation organized by the Center for Enhanced Learning and Teaching on August 21 (Tuesday).

The purposes of the non-faculty orientation are to:

  1. Introduce various teaching and learning information specifically related to non-faculty teaching staff.
  2. Allow non-faculty teaching staff to network and form support/teaching groups.
  3. Interact and discuss specific issues related to non-faculty teaching staff.

Getting Feedback on your Teaching

1. Knowing UST students

This session will present some statistics and characteristics of the UST students including their demographics, background and study habits.

2. Effective Teaching Skills

This session intends to acquaint you with the UST teaching environment including the development of outcome based education (OBE).  Some effective teaching skills e.g. interactive teaching and group discussion will also be shared to support your teaching in the tertiary setting.

3. Assessment - Marking and Grading

Some tips and strategies to ease your marking load will be introduced.  Various types of grading rubrics e.g. peer evaluation, presentation will also be shared.

4. Getting feedback on your Teaching

This session will provide a number of different ways which you can obtain feedback on your teaching both during a course and at the end of a semester.

5. Support for Teaching & Learning at HKUST

The session will introduce the services and systems to support your teaching as well as students’ learning at HKUST, including library services, publishing technology services, teaching and learning systems such as the Learning Management and Evaluation System (LMES), HKUST Survey Tool and Turnitin (a plagiarism prevention tool) etc.
