Are you looking for teaching techniques to enhance the interaction in your classroom?

In this spring semester, CEI is offering two theme-based workshops to provide you practical strategies on how to get students actively participate in class. These workshops are hands-on and interactive, with an aim to help participants consider ways to apply some best practices in their teaching.

TA127 Facilitating Group Work to Maximize Student Learning

9 March, 10:30 am -12:00 – Room 6558 (Lift 27/28)

Guiding students to learn through experience and reflection with peers is a very important skill for GTAs to maximize students’ learning. Yet, many GTAs are distressed by the silence and unresponsiveness of students, or confronting tensions built in groups. This workshop will take students to explore the tools and skills for group facilitation, reflect about the dynamics of group learning, and learn the ways to cope with challenges.

TA128 Using Clickers to Improve Student Learning

Personal Response System (PRS) is an interactive technology that enables teachers to pose questions to students and immediately collect feedback from the entire class. An effective use of PRS allows you to assess students’ learning, engage the whole class, and teach interactively. This workshop will cover: 1) the pedagogical value of using PRS, 2) strategies for using PRS in your class, and 3) illustrative examples of questions and teaching activities that PRS supports.
