Seminar Overview:

Dr Jason CHAN, the recipient of the Common Core Teaching Excellence Award 2016, has revealed his secrets of teaching in this seminar. In particular, he featured his experience and practices in managing and engaging large classes with over 300 students with diverse backgrounds. He also shared his views on the traditional textbook approach and his adoption of an experiential learning project component in his course design and delivery for creating a unique learning experience for students. Assessment methods and the use of teaching tools such as Canvas that he found effective has also be discussed.

About the Speaker:

Dr Jason CHAN obtained his BA and MSci degrees at the University of Cambridge, and his PhD degree in Bio-organic Chemistry from the University of St. Andrews in 2013. He won the Common Core Teaching Excellence Award 2016 for his course CHEM 1004 Chemistry in Everyday Life in the early stage of his teaching career. Passionate in chemistry experiements and teaching, Dr Chan has consistently been receiving positive feedback from students about his lively teaching approach and intriguing demonstrations in class.
