Dr Carless is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong. In this seminar, he covered the following assessment issues:

• Examples of bottom-up learning-oriented assessment drawn from universities in Hong Kong in relation to the notion of student learning outcomes;
• A framework for learning-oriented assessment; and
• Reflections on both potentials and barriers for implementation and their implications for assessment.
