Prof. Karl Smith is the Professor of Cooperative Learning in Engineering Education and Fellow of Discovery Center of Purdue University. He has been at the University of Minnesota since 1972 and is in phased retirement as MorseiVAlumni Distinguished Teaching Professor and Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Minnesota. In the workshop, he highlighted the questions of How can we structure our courses to ensure that they lead to enhanced learning? How can the "Understanding by Design" approach developed by Wiggins and McTighe assist us in our planning? Participants in this interactive session explored the professor's role in designing and structuring "Pedagogies of Engagement" to create high-quality learning environments for students.
