This workshop has provided information about the legal aspects of being a scholar, as both an information and knowledge user and producer.
This workshop has introduced and explained Hong Kong’s Copyright Ordinance as it relates to study, teaching, and learning. Attendees will develop understanding of which sub-section are most relevant to educational use, begin to form opinions on what may constitute legitimate use and fair dealing. Participants has been also explained the differences between “public domain”, “copyrighted”, “patented”, and “licensed”.
Participants learnt about HKUST’s Intellectual property policies in regards to “individual effort” and “university assigned effort”. They will also learn how they can protect their own material, and how they can also open it up to wider audiences. Attendees will be introduced to “Open Access” and Creative Commons licensing.
